October Monthly Meeting
October 7, 2016

September is in the books and its time to move on to Ocober! Here is a recap of the October monthly meeting:
First of all congratulations and welcome to all our new members!
For all events you plan on attending please fill out the October Event Registration poll, http://bit.ly/octeventreg, ASAP. It is incredibly important that we have an estimate of the number of people who will be in attendance in order for your guest speakers, workshop and volunteer hosts, and officers to know how much food we need to provide and what rooms we need to book to accommodate everyone.
We are hosting one event this month that has limited space. In order to attend that event you MUST fill out the poll AND email us your RSVP. If you RSVP and do not attend this event, you will be assigned lowest priority for any future events with attendance caps.
Additionally, we are requiring participation in our Heart & Sole 5K next semester. The event will be held on Saturday, April 22nd. Mark your calendars now! If you cannot attend you can substitute your hours through tabling.

Heart and Sole 5k: April 22 - THIS IS A REQUIRED EVENT FOR ALL MEMBERS NEXT SEMESTER.
We are working with the University of Nevada School of Medicine medical students to put on an 5k to raise money for the Student Outreach Clinic. The Student Outreach Clinic is designed to help under served, under insured, and uninsured members of our community by providing health services such as labs; general and pediatric clinics; gerontology and dermatology clinics; women's clinics; discount cards for pharmaceuticals and much more. Their funding was heavily cut back last year and we are working directly with the medical school to, hopefully, make up the costs.
Although much of the planning has already been done by our President, Vice President, and medical school liaison, there is still more to get done in regard to advertising and event day necessities. Many of you have already reached out to us expressing your interest but please send us an email confirming that you are still interested in being hands on for this event as a part of the Heart & Sole 5K Planning Committee. I will be assigning each of you tasks to complete before a certain deadline as soon as I get a finalized list of who is interested.
Civic Action Committee Position:
Due to the large number of members interested in the newly available civic action committee position we will be moving the interview process to another day in November, TBA, in order to have more ample time to interview each candidate. We are also deliberating how many supporting positions we are going to add to leadership; we will let you guys know what we decide by the end of this month. If you have any questions about what the office entails or are interested in running, please send us an email!
Also, all AMSA members can potentially receive discounts on Kaplan test prep material. In order to receive your discount, you must fill out this quick "What's Next?" quiz at http://bit.ly/sampunr so that Kaplan knows how to best serve our club in terms of discounts and free courses.
Here is the Event Registration link one more time http://bit.ly/octeventreg.
Hope to see you all soon!
